Milk Price Incentive to Milk Producers
District Level Milk Unions procure milk from producers through village level milk co-operative societies. Being a hilly state, availability of green as well as dry fodder is very limited. Milk producers have to arrange feed and fodder for their cattle from the open market. Lack of high yielding milch cattle and adverse climatic condition of the state results in low per cattle milk production. Due to these reasons cost of milk production at village level goes very high. They could not get price for milk production as per efforts made by them. So, to compensate their efforts State Govt. has announced Rs.4 per Liter subsidy for milk producers as milk price incentive. The subsidy amount would be given to milk producers on the basis of per liter of milk poured by them in milk cooperative societies. In the year 2016-17 Rs. 1416.66 lakh has been given, as milk price incentive to total 48 thousand milk producer members of milk cooperative societies.
